To Think I Did All That

Jim’s theme this week brought a few songs to my mind. But I have chosen a classic . It’s Frank Sinatra with the iconic “My Way” – which he owns. I don’t understand anyone else even attempting to cover this one. It’s his.

Writers: Claude François and Paul Anka

And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way

I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows
I took the blows
And did it my way

Yes, it was my way

I agree with you that Sinatra’s version is best, but I love the Northern Kings version too. It’s so grand and bombastic it often makes me cry 😢

This is such a great song. I’m also partial to the Elvis Presley cover of it as well. 🙂

Elvis is so distinctive. I was listening to something from him the other day – I can’t remember what it was, but I forgot how amazing his voice is.

I’m a huge Elvis fan. My mom was as well. I feature him from time to time on SLS. He could sing the phone book and sound good. 😉

  4. To think I did all that. Paul Anka wrote this for Frank. Elvis, Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey covered this song.

Trivia: this song is notorious in the Philippines for having caused many brawls. A lot of drunkards would sing this in karaoke and taunt the crowd into fighting them. Crazy but true!

I am sure I have been at weddings where the father of the bride took a turn at karaoke and it was obvious he was drunk.
