Peer Pressure Influence

I am alright. I am. Honestly. I know I have a whinge sometimes, but I am alright. I think being busy with work helps. I don’t want to sound like one of those “why does it always rain on me?” people.

Some of my mates have come back to London after visiting family at Christmas (yeah – I know flippin’ selfish rule-breakers is what they are!) and they don’t seem as alright as I am. Maybe we moan too much amongst us. I am wondering if we have got ourselves into a negative rut somewhere

We gripe about the things people normally get negative about – money, bosses, girlfriends, Boris, football, pubs being closed. I worry we end up being so miserable we aren’t doing each other any favours at all. But we are mates because we are the same age with similar circumstances and interests. Now, we are all facing the same challenges at the same time.

I have lent one of my mates money to be able to pay his rent twice already in 2020. No biggie – little in the course of our friendship. The only thing that winds me up is that some of my mates still want to meet up for a drink. Pubs are closed of course, they want to meet up in one of our home’s. I keep telling them no way.

I think it twigged a while ago – we have to tell our mates, our friends, our families “NO WAY!” when they want to ignore the rules. My mates matter – we go back a long way. But you can’t put your mates before your parents or grandparents. Just flippin’ tell them “NO WAY! STAY AT HOME YOU KNOBHEAD” or words to that effect.

I agree with you Hugh, how foolish of them. The government has been blamed for acting too slow, the new variant has been blamed for the swifter spread, but at the end of the day those who have ignored the rules are the ones who have caused this mess.

As harsh as it sounds they are responsible for spreading the virus, making thousands of people very ill, and are responsible for the deaths of many thousands of others. And they are responsible for our lockdowns.

Sorry, Hugh. I was meant to be simply saying I agree and thank you for once again taking part in our challenge.

It’s been bloody frustrating. But I am starting to feel that once we have reached summer, hopefully we can be more relaxed.

I do hope so, for everyone’s sake. Take care and keep safe. 🙂

My son, a teacher, contracted the virus at his school.

He’s in my bubble and passed the virus to me before he had symptoms. He was absolutely fine, a couple of days feeling poorly and felt well again before the ten days were up.

I was admitted to hospital on my eleventh day. Now five weeks later I am finally getting better. It is a horrible illness, but the good news is that I never left the house after his visit so did not pass it to anyone else.

Oh mate – I’m sorry to hear that. I hope you make a full recovery.

I agree with Susan on this one. In Canada where I live it is the lame brained and careless that are spreading this virus. Phony ID badges have surfaced telling the public that the person wearing this badge does not have to wear a mask. That is a bunch of baloney. These people are lazy and want to show their independence. Tell that to the virus.

It’s weird. I don’t understand why a killer disease would provoke such idiocy. People have their opinions on all sorts of issues – but why they cannot all agree on how to stop people dying is nuts.

Unfortunately so many people visited family and friends for Christmas and New Year. The risk was too great and the results are now making things so much harder. You were and are right. Good mates will understand.

Yeah, they were not prepared to give up a few days with family to keep their own family and everyone else’s safe. They missed the whole point of unselfish giving.
